Saw the Artist tonight. Must say I enjoyed. So of the best pic films I have seen here is how I would rank em. Although I do have to say the Artist is a phenomenal film. I think the male and female leads deserve to win in their respective categories. 1. The Help 2. The Descendents 3. The Artist 4. Hugo 5. Midnight in Paris 6. Moneyball

Recently I got a promotion at work. Just have to say, how awesome is that in the last 4 years at my old company, I never received a promotion but 6 months in at the new one and hello new opportunities. Pretty dope. Anyway, only bad thing in all of this is one of my colleagues, who interviewed for the same position appears to have taken it upon themselves to make me look bad. I could just be...

pissed
so my editor decided not to run my review of the Talib Kweli show b/c he was terrible. Sweet. Here is the review, hope no one wastes their money on him. Plenty of shows do not live up to their hype due to poor sound quality, long delays and other missteps. An artist as big as Talib Kweli could have saved the day after a 4-hour delay and worked through the ham radio quality sound system, instead he...

Finding Motivation in Megan Fox
Last week, the dude sitting next to me holds up a picture of Megan Fox and says, “this is my motivation for working hard.” I did not have the heart to tell him that no matter how hard he works the picture of Megan Fox will never come alive… In all seriousness, I did not know what to say. I understand if someone has a family photo up or a picture of a material possession they...

sold
Sold my car tonight which felt great as I got way more than I ever thought possible. The best part, sold it to a private buyer on craigs, so I did not have to deal with dealer garbage. As good as it felt, I much admit, I feel like I sold a slight piece of me. I owned the car for 5 years, drove across the country, listened to countless albums and dealt with endless life changes while owning my...

Hmm, my wife just came up with the idea of freelance writing personal ads for people. Honestly, I tip my hat to that. The best one she has come up with tonight…”how would you like a trophy wife whose hobbies include drinking their dinner….

Matter
Throughout my life I have battled confidence issues from time to time. I realize everyone does but the hardest thing for me to adjust to is knowing that I matter to someone else. This may sound like a weird thing to say but adjusting to meaning something to someone else has always been a bit of a foreign feeling to me. Almost like I do not deserve it. Do not get me wrong, I absolutely love being...

Target does such a great job with everything but produce. Why do they have such budget produce? I mean that in the sense of being low grade and not exactly cheap pricewise. Do not tell me you get what you pay for either, word to the wise Target’s fruits and veggies are far more expensive than most grocery stores I have investigated.  Sweet, apples at $1.75 a pound and they are all bruised...

New Job
Oh it feels so good to have a new position. I cannot even tell you how burned out I was at my old place.  Getting out of my old office has led to a completely sunnier outlook for me. I am incredibly grateful to once again have career and job goals. The position is in sales so going from salaried to salary and commission is a bit of a change but I am totally pumped for something new. Too bad I...

I know I sound like a complete music snob here but I despise the large concert crowds these days. The venues are always full of people who go to one concert a year so they need to go all out, get wasted and throw common show manners out the window. Simply Stated: I do not like large venue concerts because they tend to attracted non-show going crowds. Maybe I just like shows rather than concerts...

Karma
So I have not written about this because I keep forgetting. The wedding season is finally over for me which has me super stoked. At the Toledo wedding I saw the old friend who I wrote about earlier who has been stonewalling me. We were best friends for years upon years and then he quits talking to me. I see him at my friend’s wedding and he does his best to avoid me. I finally walk up to him...

So everything just kind of fell apart tonight. I was incredibly excited as my wife was accompanying me to a show (she is not the music junkie I am and usually has to be in front of a classroom the next day so she cannot attend). This was a huge outdoor venue type show, which are not my favorite with the crowds and all. (There is nothing like seeing a band at a small capacity place of 150 people.)...

Band Names
Maybe I am showcasing my age here a bit but why do indie bands have such stupid names these days? I swear if I have to hear one more band name involving an animal name or something that reads more like a description I am going to tear off my ultra tight skinny jeans. 5 Stupid band names -Bear vs. Shark -Foster the People -Friendly Fires -Kids these Days -Cage the Elephant

Change
One of the elements I love most about my neighborhood is its natural grittiness. To the south I have one of the best parks in town, old Victorian mansions which have been turned into apartments and a slew of great neighborhood restaurants and bars. One block north is comprised of one of the major thoroughfares of the city and the most recognized street names in town. The street is an interesting...

Cold Spots
So there is a park near my place that back in the day was a cemetery. The city has acknowledged that there are probably in the neighborhood of 1200-1500 bodies still underground. Background: The park was a cemetery back in the 1900’s and when the city purchased the land the removal company did a shotty jump so the city decided to just lay grass and call it good. I am not much into...

The White Sox were in town last night so I went to the game. It was so nice to be around some fans who wanted to cheer and jeer their team. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to Rockies games but the crowd is just a bit too docile for me. Good old Quiet Coors Field. I cannot seem to get over the fact that fans do not seem to cheer much unless the jumbo-tron says “on your feet” or...

Pride
Yesterday was the annual Pride parade. With the parade route being just steps away from my place, I had to check it out with my dog. Once again, I maintain the Pride Parade is the best Parade this city offers. Lucky was happy as well. Looking like a muppet always gains her a lot of attention at parades.

I do my best to avoid drama in all of my personal relationships, things just work better that way. I seem to be quite adept at capartementalizing things. 3-4 years ago my wife and her friend had a falling out (no details necessary), interestingly enough one of my best friends is married to that friend. We live accross the country so we very rarely see each other. When we do my friend pretends like...

Cheers
This is a take on a writing prompt from college called “why I write” I listen to music because it is one of the few constants that has been with me my entire life. I listen to music because it helped me get through my parents divorce and allowed me to maintain even when I was bullied because my parents were “ahead of the curve” and I was an energetic little second grader....

Something strange I realized today: You ever invision yourself in certain situations? When I say invision I mean like you can actually see yourself at a party or hanging around your place. Today like many other days, I was listening to a song and was like, this would be a great song to listen to when I am alone in my livingroom, being pensive and drinking a beer. The funny part about this...
