This is a take on a writing prompt from college called “why I write”

I listen to music because it is one of the few constants that has been with me my entire life. I listen to music because it helped me get through my parents divorce and allowed me to maintain even when I was bullied because my parents were “ahead of the curve” and I was an energetic little second grader. I listen to music because like no other medium, it evokes memories that I could not pull out of my head in my wildest dreams. Any Frank Sinatra song evokes visions of my grandparents singing and dancing together. I listen to music because sometimes I can not find the right words but a song can perfectly summarize my mood. I listen to music because it is one of the few activities I truly enjoy doing alone. I can go to a show to check out a band on my own and never feel lonely. The energy levels of the crowd, performer and venue remind me of life’s finer moments. I listen to music because it fixed every cheesy video production assignment in college. If I needed to fill space on a project, I could take some b-roll footage, find a song that worked and call it a montage. I listen to music because as much as I do not want to credit Dick Clark, music is the soundtrack to our lives. Most of all, I listen to music because this list is endless and I could write all night about this topic.
